Overland Truck Build Consultancy:
Private Strategy Sessions

If you’re considering an overland truck build, the hardest part isn’t finding options. It’s understanding how early decisions around the base vehicle, structure, systems, layout, and budget will shape everything that follows.

We offer private, one-to-one strategy sessions for people who want to think through their truck build at a high level, sense-check plans, and avoid costly or limiting decisions before committing. Our focus is on practical trade-offs, long-term use, and how the vehicle will actually work in real conditions, not just on paper.

What this session focuses on

Build components and systems

Design and layout decisions

Talking through bolt-on elements such as roof racks, external lockers, bike or spare wheel carriers, garage access, awnings, and cut-throughs between cab and habitation. We help you sense-check how these choices affect weight distribution, access, usability, security, and long-term practicality, including where simpler or more integrated solutions may work better than adding complexity.

Discussing realistic energy requirements, including battery capacity, charging sources, solar expectations, and how power use changes over time on the road.

Thinking through water storage, filtration, waste arrangements, and practical day-to-day use, balancing comfort with simplicity and maintenance.

Covering HVAC considerations, heating and hot water options, cooking setups, and how fuel options, climate, travel style, redundancy and vehicle size affect these choices.

Thinking through water storage, filtration, waste arrangements, and practical day-to-day use, balancing comfort with simplicity and maintenance.

Sense-checking decisions around windows, roof lights, doors, garage access, cut-throughs, and external storage, with attention to light, ventilation, security, and practicality.

Talking through toilet options and bathroom setups, including real-world trade-offs around waste disposal, space, complexity, maintenance, and long-term comfort.

Talking through optional extras such as TVs, washing machines, additional appliances, and other comfort features, and how they affect power demand, space, weight, complexity, and maintenance. We help you think realistically about which extras genuinely add value to your day-to-day life on the road, and which often create ongoing compromises for relatively little benefit.

The Build Process

After the session, you’ll have:

  • A clearer view of whether your overland truck plans are realistic and aligned with how you actually want to travel
  • Better understanding of the trade-offs involved in key decisions around the base vehicle, structure, systems, layout, and budget
  • Greater confidence in the choices you’re making, and where you may want to rethink or simplify
  • A clearer sense of next steps, including which decisions can wait and which are better made early

How we can help

We can review your ideas, sense-check plans, and help you think through options and trade-offs. We can also help you formulate an overall approach if you’re still early in the process.

We don’t produce technical drawings or detailed build plans, and we don’t replace engineers, builders, or manufacturers. Our role is to help you make better decisions before costly commitments are made.

How it works

  • A focused, one-to-one consultancy session
You’ll have a 60-minute private video call with Phil and Izzy focused specifically on your overland truck build plans, decisions, and uncertainties. This is a structured, practical discussion, not a presentation or sales call.
  • Preparation before the call
After booking, you’ll receive a short questionnaire covering your vehicle ideas, intended use, priorities, and constraints. We review this in advance so the session focuses on the decisions that matter most, not generic build advice.
  • Working through key decisions and trade-offs
During the session, we’ll talk through your plans, highlight trade-offs, and sense-check assumptions around vehicle choice, structure, systems, layout, and budget. We’ll be open about where decisions tend to limit flexibility, increase cost or complexity, or cause problems later on.
  • Space to ask questions
This is your opportunity to ask the questions that are often hard to get clear, impartial answers to elsewhere, and to work through areas that feel uncertain before committing to them.
  • Clear next steps
By the end of the session, you should have a clearer direction, better confidence in your decisions, and a more grounded sense of what to move forward with, what to simplify, and what to pause.
