Hiking Junta de Los Rios, Sierra Nevada is a delightful family friendly day out. This easy under foot hike follows identifiable paths and has great views of the surrounding Sierra Nevada.
We parked at the parking in Bérchules, although it is a small car park and likely to be busy in the summer. We did not stay overnight.
Yes, easy underfoot and low elevation if they can manage the distance.
There are bars and shops in Bérchules village but nothing on route.
Likely to be quiet (ish), a popular hike but not iconic like some other Sierra Nevada hike.
Hiking Junta de Los Rios, Sierra Nevada, Spain
A family friendly, relatively easy hike with identifiable paths all the way; the paths start wide and become narrower as the hike progresses.
You start at the most northerly point in Bérchules, in Calle Garcia. At the end of this road there is some signed info on the route. Follow the yellow and white markers and you won’t go wrong. This is a hike with a consistent, low gradient all the way until you reach Cortijo de los Pollos. At this point you can stop and have lunch before starting the return journey along the same route.
This is a pretty, quiet and thoroughly enjoyable hike for a spring day.
